I grew up in South Carolina surrounded by a big family and lots of pets. I graduated from the University of Georgia and became a high school English teacher and a high school library media specialist. I retired from a career in education in 2012. I live with my husband and two dogs in the Carolina mountains.
I have enjoyed writing stories all my life, but it wasn't until I retired that I really got serious about it. I joined the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and started studying the craft of writing for children. I attended conferences and took classes. I have completed two children's books about dogs so far. Molly to the Rescue is my first published chapter book. Big Sid is a picture book.
I love to write about dogs, because they are so important to me. When I come up with an idea for a book, you can bet there's a dog involved! I start out writing on a legal pad and get my ideas down. Then I type it on my computer and edit, edit, and edit some more. I belong to a critique group, and they help me revise and refine my writing.
